Nature Is Not Always Kind

We are all animals, killing other lives to survive in this world...

Aalborg Zoo in northern Denmark asked people to donate unwanted pets, like rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and even horses. To give the carnivorous animals, such as lions, lynxes, and tiger meats as natural as possible.

At first, this idea can feel shocking. Many of us see pets, especially dogs and cats, as family members, not as future meals. But this reaction shows our relationship with animals. We give love and care to some species, yet we see others, like chickens or cows, only as food. In nature, there is no difference, but for humans, the line is emotional. Because of our empathy, we can feel very sad for a cat but not for a rabbit,
even though both are living creatures.

This discussion also made me think about the culture. In Denmark and some other countries, feeding whole animals to zoo predators is accepted. People may see it as part of the natural food chain. But in many places, this would be unacceptable, and even illegal. This shows that everyone has a different perception, depending on where we live and how we were raised.

But also I can understand the zoos decision. Feeding them with animals, including bones, organs, and fur, offers a better nutrition. This aligns with the habits they would have in the wild and makes them healthier.

In the end, this story reminded me that nature is not always kind. In the wild, survival often means that one animal must die, so another can live. Maybe the real question is not whether this is “right” or “wrong”. We only need to accept nature as it really is.

What do you think about this? Would you accept this as a normal practice? Would you donate animals? Share your thoughts in the comments, I'd like to read other opinions!
